The Crittenden Compromise was a proposal of constitutional amendments introduced by Senator John J. Crittenden in 1860.
It aimed to protect slavery in southern states by extending the Missouri Compromise line to the Pacific and allowing slavery in territories south of that line.
The plan was rejected by Congress.
