Water boatmen like to attach themselves to vegetation at the bottom of a pond or stream, and breathe from an envelope of air stored around their bodies and under their wings.
Ability: Puny paddler
These insects tend to have four long rear legs and two short front ones. The modified forelegs are covered with hairs and shaped like oars, inspiring their common name of "water boatman".

Water boatmen are strong fliers yet are clumsy on land. They are attracted at night to artificial lights, and it is not uncommon to find them in birdbaths and swimming pools, which the insects fly into by mistake.
