The Deccan Plateau is a triangle-shaped land in southern India that sits between two mountain ranges.
 In the flat parts, large granite rocks formed by volcanoes cover the land. These rocks are very old, forming more than 60 million years ago. The hillier parts of the plateau have thin forests and small scrubby bushes.
It is relatively dry with water mainly coming from monsoon rains. The plateau's soil comes in black, yellow, or red varieties, with the black soil being rich in iron and suitable for growing cotton. while the yellow and red soils lack key minerals, making it harder for farmers to grow plants in those areas.
