The Cavite Mutiny, which took place on January 20, 1872, was a short-lived uprising by Filipino soldiers and workers at Fort San Felipe in Cavite. Though small in scale, the Spanish colonial government used it as an excuse to suppress growing nationalist sentiments. Three Filipino priests—Mariano Gómez, José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora (GOMBURZA)—were falsely accused of involvement and executed, making them martyrs in Philippine history.
